Our PV trip

I can't believe a week in Puerto Vallarta is already over. That went by so fast. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to stay in contact w/you guys over that week. The hotel we were staying at had Internet problems and wasn't worth the frustration of trying each night. Let me give you a recap of our week there. We found getting around PV was extremely easy with their bus system. In Mazatlan we were used to flagging down a bus and have it stop at our convenience. In PV we learned there were actual "bus stops" to wait at. No worries they were everywhere. Some of the buses had live entertainment on them. Mostly musicians trying to make a few bucks from the passengers. Some were good while others...well, didn't appeal to me. Our hotel was centrally located. Like Mazatlan...PV has Old Centro, a Malecon, Hotel Zone, Marina and Resort Zone. We spent a little time in each area and of course Old Centro was our favorite area. We really like the feel of Mexico not the new resort/Americanized feel. The Malecon area was fabulous too. Time Share people were everywhere. They by far are worse here than Mazatlan; however they pay more to sit in on their presentation. ($300 - $400 per presentation) So what do we do...we sat in on 3 presentations. Don't laugh, that's good money. The sales people in PV were pretty harsh when we turned them down. Actually down right rude. Just show us the money we said and we'll be on our way. We played golf one morning @ Marina Vallarta. There were 6 course to chose from and we chose the wrong one. This course was expensive ($135 green fees, $40/pp golf cart and $50 per set of clubs) and we couldn't actually share the clubs since I'm left handed. The facilities really lacked. We assumed the score card had a lay out of the course or some information that told us distance, hazards, where to lay up but apparently they were on the counter for us to buy. Go figure! The course was difficult w/lots of water and sand traps not mention the Crocs. We saw 5 of them. One was actually in the fairway near a water hazard. Had I hit my ball correctly I would have been 5 feet from him. Golfing is always a good time and we enjoyed our afternoon out there. But in the future we'll try one of the other courses. We went on a tour called Las Caletas. One of those booze cruises that takes you to a remote beach for snorkeling, kayaking, cooking class, diving, and nature walks plus a buffet and tons more drinking. Bob got in a 2 tank dive and relaxed afterwards. Any guess to what I did? Cooking class. We cooked up a mean Paella. O'man was it good. Made with tons of seafood...mahi mahi, octopus, calamari, shrimp, clams and mussels. The buffet luncheon was fabulous and there were ongoing activities all day long. You could do as much or as little as you wanted. I would highly recommend if ever in PV. We took a bus to a small surfing town called Sayulitas. The town was about an hour out and well worth the trip. Great town and had a lot going for it. Diversity of people, fabulous food, nice beach and lots of charm. We were sent to this area to scope out a resort called Playa Escondido. As everyone knows we plan to build a mini resort after our travels. A person out of Chihuahua Mexico highly recommended for ideas. The manager was very cool and let us tour the property. This place was fabulous. It was 10 times the size of anything I want but we did walk away w/some very cool ideas. Other than that we hung by the pool, enjoyed our walks around town and met new people. From PV we headed to Guanajuato. We didn't do very well taking pictures in PV but I'll do much better in Guanajuato. Love ya - Bonnie & Bob

Hi guys! Happy New Year! We just got back from 2 wonderful weeks in Guanaja, got to meet a lot more people down there and got a few more things done on our house. The time was wonderful and we were definitely not ready to come home, good verification that we will probably like being there full time. Keep us posted on your plans and we can try to rendevous down there sometime!

All the best, Ann & Gene
